Welcome to the Central Coast Human Resource Association

The Central Coast Human Resource Association (CCHRA) is a local, 501(c)6 non-profit association serving California’s central coast HR professionals with members throughout Monterey County and surrounding communities. CCHRA brings HR professionals together to help them stay abreast of ever-changing employment legislation, network with colleagues, and provide a forum for exchanging information about the most up-to-date trends and ideas used in HR management today.

CCHRA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The National Steinbeck Center invites you to join us as a one-day Volunteer Writing Coach for the 2015-2016 Steinbeck Young Authors Program. The Steinbeck Young Authors Program is an opportunity for middle school students to explore the excitement of writing and to enhance their writing skills by reading and discussing John Steinbeck’s The Red Pony. The program consists of three stages: a classroom component, the Day of Writing event for teacher-nominated students, and an awards ceremony.

The Day of Writing is an occasion to celebrate student writing and introduce students to the works of John Steinbeck and the resources of the National Steinbeck Center. It’s a chance to emphasize the importance of good writing skills and also show students that their community cares about them and their writing!

Volunteer as a writing coach for the 2015-2016 Steinbeck Young Authors Day of Writing on Monday, March 7th, 2016 from 10:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

As a writing coach, you would commit just over three hours to:

  • Attend the Volunteer Writing Coach training and luncheon;
  • Meet one-on-one with your assigned student;
  • Complete an evaluation form that will help with ongoing development of the Steinbeck Young Authors Program.

This year we need 100 - 125 coaches! We hope you can share some of your time and talent with us!

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact CCHRA's Workforce Readiness Director, Joanne Webster at jwebster107@outlook.com.

Please respond by February 22, 2016.

The National Steinbeck Center is located at One Main Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
