    Certification Scholarship

     

    Consistent with CCHRA’s mission to promote excellence in Human Resources and to offer high value, high visibility and high return on investment endeavors, CCHRA is offering two $750 certification scholarships for 2018 for CCHRA members.

    The certification scholarship may be used to assist with funding of any SHRM CP/SCP, or HRCI’s certification that has not been paid for by an employer. You may apply anytime throughout the year.

    SHRM Certification

    HRCI Certification

    The Human Resource Certification Institute awards three levels of certification:

    • Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
    • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)
    • Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR)

    The PHR, SPHR, or GPHR certifications, awarded by the Human Resource Certification Institute, signifies that an individual possesses the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the body of knowledge in the field.  To become certified, an applicant must pass a comprehensive examination and demonstrate a strong background of professional human resource experience. All exams are generalist (i.e., they assess all the functional areas of the HR field) but differ in terms of focus and the cognitive level of questions. PHR questions tend to be at an operational/technical level, SPHR questions tend to be more at the strategic and/or policy level, and GPHR questions refer to global HR issues.

    Certification sets those with the credential apart -- or above -- those without it. There are a number of advantages to seeking certification. Certification becomes a public recognition of professional achievement -- both within and outside of the profession. For many, achieving certification becomes a personal professional goal -- a way to test knowledge and to measure it against one's peers. Others see certification as an aid to career advancement. Certifications define what an individual needs to know in order to be an acknowledged "expert" in that field.

    As a benefit of membership, the Central Coast Human Resource Association strives to keep our members informed regarding certification, recertification, and upcoming exam information through our member newsletter and announcements at chapter meetings. CCHRA also supports a Certification Exam Preparation Program offered through a local university that utilizes the SHRM Learning System.
